Our Mission

M1U strengthens the imams, masajid, and waqf of the ummah — so that every community can receive those coming to Islam, serve those living it, and endure beyond those who built it.

Waqf — an Islamic endowment. An asset is dedicated permanently and can never be sold or inherited; only what it generates is spent. It is how institutions outlast the people who build them.

M1U Foundation Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving as a bridge between people, mosques, nonprofits, and businesses — creating partnerships that multiply impact instead of dividing it.

Our Core Program

Thabaat

ثبات · steadfastness, firmness of heart

Nobody should walk into Islam alone.

Thabaat is a national support program for reverts, built jointly by M1U Foundation and the North American Imams Fellow. It pairs every revert with a trained, screened companion within 48 hours of their shahada — and stays with them for a full year.

Why "revert"? Every child is born upon the fitrah and is turned toward another faith by upbringing. Someone entering Islam is returning to an original state rather than adopting a foreign one.

We built a front door.
Nobody staffed the back door.

A person takes their shahada. The masjid erupts in takbir. Forty people embrace them, someone presses a phone number into their hand, and they go home.

Within a month, the numbers have gone cold. Family has stopped speaking to them. Friends have drifted. The community that celebrated them has moved on to the next celebration.

What follows is not a crisis of belief. It is a crisis of belonging — and no one is assigned to catch it.

Net zero Islam in the U.S. gains roughly as many converts as it loses, so conversion has little net effect on the size of the American Muslim population.

A twelve-week Foundations cohort built around daily practice and lived transition — prayer, family, halal living, workplace — rather than abstract doctrine.

Sanad

Support

Scholars for direct questions, gender-specific peer circles, licensed counseling by referral, and a staffed national line that a real person answers.

Safeguarding is not a footnote

Reverts are often at their most isolated and least protected in the months after shahada. Every commitment below is in place before a single participant is enrolled.

✓National background check and registry search on every companion, repeated every two years

✓Same-gender pairing as the default for all one-to-one contact

✓Sixteen-hour certification with a pass requirement and annual recertification

✓Published code of conduct barring romantic pursuit and private financial arrangements

✓Mental health care delivered only by licensed clinicians — never by volunteers

✓Participant privacy protected by role. No public directory, ever.

✓Supervision at one supervisor per twelve companions. Nobody works unsupervised.

✓A complaint pathway that never routes through the person being complained about

The Rafeeq Corps

Rafeeqs are screened, certified, and supervised volunteers who commit to twelve months with one person. Recruitment opens alongside the first pilot cohort, and every applicant goes through references, a background check, a structured interview, and sixteen hours of certification before they are matched with anyone.

For imams and masjids

The intake protocol, curriculum, and companion certification are offered at no cost to imams and to existing revert-support programs. Where a capable program already exists, Thabaat equips it rather than competing with it.

Ensuring our spiritual leaders can serve their communities full-time. Imams are present at nearly every moment that matters in a Muslim's life — and are too often the least supported people in the room. Two training tracks are in development: financial health for imams and their families, and using digital tools to extend their reach.

The Team Behind the Mission

Dr. Abdulhakim Mohamed

President, M1U Foundation Inc. · CEO, North American Imams Fellow

Dr. Abdulhakim Mohamed is President of M1U Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing charitable and community-focused initiatives. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of the North American Imams Fellow and President of the Global Imams and Scholars Council, and is a member of the Muslim World League.

Dr. Mohamed holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies and has served as an imam for over forty years. His career has also included work in education as both a teacher and a principal. He has been actively engaged in da'wah in the United States since 1995, dedicating his life to Islamic scholarship, community leadership, and service.

He is based in Michigan.

Abdul Tayyab

Vice President of Operations

Abdul Tayyab is an entrepreneur, operations strategist, and technology leader with a background in nonprofit and healthcare operations. As Vice President of Operations for M1U, he focuses on building scalable systems and supporting national initiatives.

He serves as Director of Customer Success for QubaLink/Minar360, working with masajid and community organizations to strengthen engagement through technology, and sits on the Executive Committee of OPEN DC.

Saba Asad

Secretary

Saba Asad is a marketing and community engagement leader with over fourteen years of experience in digital strategy, branding, technology, and nonprofit communications. She serves as Marketing Director at QubaLink and on the Board of Trustees of the ADAMS Center.

For over fifteen years she has been actively involved in volunteering and serving the Muslim community, supporting initiatives in education, outreach, communications, and organizational development. Her work is driven by a commitment to strengthening Muslim institutions and helping community initiatives grow from ideas into sustainable impact.

Ahmed R. Ali

Board Member

Ahmed R. Ali is a US-based businessman, entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist whose work is shaped by a belief that communities are strengthened not by individuals alone, but by institutions, shared responsibility, and people willing to build for generations they may never meet.

His philanthropic focus is on helping Muslim communities in North America become more organized, resilient, and institutionally prepared — particularly where access to leadership development, educational support, and sustainable funding is limited. For Ahmed, philanthropy is not only about giving; it is about helping communities stand with dignity, serve with excellence, and endure with purpose.

Sami Ahmad

Board Member

Sami Ahmad brings more than 25 years of professional experience across investments and management consulting, spanning multiple sectors, markets, and geographies. His work has centered on how organizations grow, allocate resources, and create long-term value in both commercial and impact-oriented environments.

A Pakistani-American based in Houston, Texas, Sami holds a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University in Corporate Finance and International Business, and a master's in Sustainable Development from SOAS, University of London. He brings financial and strategic oversight to M1U's growth.

Areeb Quasem

Board Member

Areeb Quasem is a product and technology leader focused on building digital platforms designed to last. He founded and led a consulting firm working on product development and engineering modernization across the public and private sectors, with experience spanning retail, finance, education, and healthcare.

His work has centered on partnering with executive teams to launch digital platforms, modernize legacy systems, and implement scalable product architectures — turning complex ideas into structured systems built for long-term impact.

How M1U Operates

M1U Foundation Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our programs are governed by a board, and our operating costs are covered separately through partnerships, sponsorships, and organizational support.

We would rather run three programs properly than ten thinly. Where a capable organization already does the work, we support it instead of duplicating it.
